Near Term
(Through Monday) Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

Another hot day is on tap for today, as temps have already warmed into the lower to middle 90s, with a few more hours of heating still to go. Coupled this with reasonably high dewpoints lends to the validity of the Heat Advisory currently in effect for the majority of the area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms have struggled to get going, with intermittent activity noted across portions of the CWA. This is due to deep layer ridging placed across the CWA (County Warning Area) mitigating widespread chances of rainfall.

Rainfall chances will make a return on Monday as the UA ridge commences to retrograde and become centered west of the area. This will allow a surface low to shift southward to near the region thus increasing chances for rainfall. As such, should see a bit more cloud cover that will result in daytime temps tomorrow /albeit still hot with projected highs in the mid-upper 90s/ to be a degree or two lower than today. Nonetheless, will need to take a closer look at the possibility of another Heat Advisory for tomorrow. Overnight temps will be in the upper 70s.

.SHORT TERM... (Monday night through Tuesday night) Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

Deep layer high pressure will continue to break down on Tuesday as a trough from the northeast moves south. The effects of this change will be gradual, into the the long term. Afternoon Probability of Precipitation will range from 50-70 percent for Tuesday into Tuesday night as the trough pushes towards the Gulf.

Temperatures on Tuesday are still expected to be hot with highs in the upper 90s and heat indices around 107-115 degrees. Heat advisories will be possible. With elevated PWATs (Precipitable Waters) above 2 inches on Tuesday, some thunderstorms may produce heavy downpours. This and increased cloud cover could reduce afternoon high temps. However, overnight lows will be a warm and muggy upper 70s to nearly 80 degrees.

Long Term
(Wednesday through Saturday) Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

Showers and thunderstorms are expected through the start of the Long Term due to the surface trough and its attending cold front pushing through from the northeast. "Cooler" temperatures with highs in the low 90s are expected and Probability of Precipitation ranging from 70-90 percent. This will be an excellent reprieve from the hot temperatures from the past weekend. However, overnight lows will still be muggy with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. As we head towards next weekend, high pressure will build in again from the Atlantic, allowing temperatures to rise back to the mid-90s. PoPs will be more diurnally driven with afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Marine
Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

Favorable boating conditions will continue. With the afternoon seabreezes, winds may gust 15-20 kts in our nearshore waters through the weekend into next week. Seas are expected to be tranquil at 1-2 feet through the week. Widespread showers and thunderstorms return by Tuesday, and especially by Wednesday/Thursday as a weak area of low pressure potentially moves into the Gulf. Some development and an increase in winds/seas can't be ruled out at this time.

Fire Weather
Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

Upper level high pressure system will shift west of the region tomorrow. The isolated showers and thunderstorms of today will become a bit more scattered Monday through Tuesday, due to the westward shift of the aforementioned ridge, and the impingement of a surface low pressure system. High dispersions are expected with west- northwest transport winds of 10-15 mph and high mixing heights. The main story continues to be the heat today, but may be a degree or two cooler Monday and Tuesday, courtesy of increased rain chances and accompanied cloud cover.

Hydrology
Issued at 203pm EDT Sunday July 20 2025

On Monday, a trough will extend south towards the region, increasing moisture content. Rain chances improve through the week, and the WPC includes our region in Marginal (level 1 of 4) risks through the week. Widespread showers and thunderstorms return by Tuesday and especially by Wednesday/Thursday as a weak area of low pressure potentially moves into the Gulf. Some development and an increase in winds/seas can't be ruled out at this time. Overall, about 2-4 inches of rain is expected through the forecast period. Yet due to the previous rains we've had, some locations may be susceptible to flash flooding with the heavy downpours. Our rivers are in good condition, so riverine flooding is not expected.
