Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Medford OR 256am PST Sat Feb 15 2025 Satellite shows low clouds in west side valleys with high clouds rolling in near the coast. A few showers are possible early today at the coast and offshore, but the next front won't bring more precipitation until later this afternoon. Temperatures will start in the 30s west of the Cascades with low teens east. In the afternoon temperatures will still be slightly below normal with highs near 50 west and in the 30s/low 40s east. The next front moves in this afternoon and precipitation will be focused on the coast, coastal mountains and Cascades once again. Snow levels will be overall 4,000-5,000 feet during this time, so that means that areas west of the Cascades will see rain and higher elevations in the Cascades and Northern California will see snow! The rain will begin at the coast later this afternoon and will move inland through the evening and overnight hours. Most of the snow will fall in the Cascades between Sunday afternoon into early Monday. Westerly flow is favored with this system and this will help favor the Cascades seeing increased snow amounts with the added moisture. Between Sunday night and Monday morning before 4 AM, there is a 50-70% probability for half an inch per hour snowfall rates. From the morning Sunday through Monday morning the Cascades could see mainly between 6-12 inches with up to 16 inches near Crater Lake. Through the whole event that starts from Saturday night and runs through Monday morning, there will be enough snow and impacts to reach warning criteria, so the Winter Weather Advisory has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning. This Warning includes the Crater Lake and Diamond Lake area. On the rain side, from tonight through Monday the coast will see an inch to an inch and a half with valley locations seeing 0.25"-0.75". After this next system passes there will be more ridging to return that continues until Wednesday. Ensembles are favoring ridging to win over later next week, meaning quieter weather. -Hermansen Marine Updated 200am PST Saturday, February 15, 2025...Westerly swell will lower below 10 feet by this morning. Northwest winds this evening shift to south later this morning, then increase ahead of the next front offshore. Gusty south winds and steep to very steep seas are possible Saturday night into Sunday morning. A progressive pattern is expected to persist into next week with additional fronts Sunday night into Monday and again Tuesday night into Wednesday. NOAA Medford OR Office: Watches - Warnings - Advisories OR...Winter Storm Warning from 10pm this evening to 10am PST Monday for ORZ027-028. CA...None.
