| Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Medford OR 419am PDT Monday Mar 16 2026 Quiet weather begins across the forecast area as some high clouds are shuffling through the region. We're not spotting fog below these spotty high clouds and it is that time of year as we start to transition between the usual foggy mornings versus mainly clear conditions with some frost. Right now, we're trending about 5 degrees warmer here at KMFR, although that should be higher by this afternoon as the ridge builds through the day. With a more technical look at things, ensembles are predicting 500mb heigheights at 586dm over northern California this afternoon, which is a maximum in reanalysis climatology for the middle of March. Unsurprisingly, surface temperatures will follow suit and test records in northern California this afternoon. The ridge will weaken slightly to the north as we move through the week as an atmospheric river and warm moist air pushes into northern Oregon and Washington by Tuesday. This will lead to a little more cloud cover and cooler temperatures to the north near Roseburg, although KMFR and most of northern California will still be pushing into the upper 70's and perhaps 80's in some locations in northern California like Alturas. Even with the ridge weakening slightly, we'll likely break records in Alturas, Mount Shasta City and Montague Tuesday through Friday. Right now, it looks like we'll fall short of records by a degree or two today, although it's not impossible to tie or break one of those. Finally, a cold front will move into the area and stall out over southern Oregon by Friday night. The Probability of Precipitation forecast increases slightly with a 20 to 30% chance in Douglas, Curry and Coos Counties with drier conditions to the south and east. Temperatures will also trend about 10 degrees cooler during the weekend. -Smith Marine Updated 200am PDT Monday, March 16, 2026...Winds shift to southerly today as seas remain low. West swell builds Tuesday, but conditions are expected to remain below advisory levels through Friday. By Saturday, a thermal trough develops, bringing gusty north winds with steep to very steep seas possible over the weekend. NOAA Medford OR Office: Watches - Warnings - Advisories OR...None.
