Long Term
(Sunday night through next Friday) Issued at 325am CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Key Messages:

- Very strong cold front Tuesday night

- Potential for widespread temperatures of 20-30 Degrees across South Texas Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

- Increased rain chances Tuesday through Tuesday night across eastern portions of South Texas.

- Gusts to Gale force across the Middle Texas Coastal Waters Wednesday.

Not much change in the forecast for the upcoming week, especially with regards to a very strong cold front Tuesday night. Models are in pretty good agreement with the frontal boundary entering the northwestern Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains late Tuesday afternoon/Tuesday evening, then reaching the coastline around midnight, give or take a couple of hours.

Ahead of the cold front on Monday, east to southeast flow will lead to warmer temperatures and increasing humidity Monday through Tuesday. Highs by Tuesday will be back in the mid 70s to mid 80s. The onshore flow will bring deeper moisture quickly back across S TX, especially across the eastern portions.

Models prog an embedded short wave in the southwest flow aloft to track across S TX Tuesday. This short wave combined with weak instability and the deeper moisture will be conducive for convective development. There is a low to medium (10-50%) chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday across the eastern portions of S TX, with the highest Probability of Precipitation across the Victoria Crossroads. The caveat is a dry mid layer and capping inversion that will hinder deep convective development. The cap will be weakest across the Victoria area, thus the higher PoPs. The combination of the approaching upper trough, and low level moisture convergence ahead and along the front will maintain the chance for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night. Rain chances end from west to east behind the cold front as a drier and much colder airmass advects into S TX.

There is a low to medium (25-35%) chance that temperatures will be at or below 32 degrees across the northern areas of the CWA. Widespread freezing temperatures are expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning. There is a high (80-90%) chance of below 32 degrees across the northern areas to a medium to high (50-80%) chance across the southern areas. The probability of temperatures below 28 degrees is 60-75% across the north CWA (County Warning Area) to 30-65% across the southern CWA. The forecast is for lows in the 20s area wide Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Lows will be 5-10 degrees warmer Thursday night, but still freezing temperatures across the interior portions of S TX. Highs for Wednesday through Friday will be well below normal with temps in the 40s to low 50s. A warming trend is expected by the weekend along with a low to medium chance of rain.

Marine
Issued at 325am CST Sat Feb 15 2025

Weak winds this morning has allowed the development of dense sea fog across the bays and waterways as well as the nearshore waters out to 20 NM. This fog should hang around through the morning hours until the southerly flow increases to more moderate to strong levels. Our next cold front is expected late this afternoon into this evening with strong north to northeast winds between 25-30 knots developing late tonight into early Sunday morning in the wake of the front with winds weakening back to moderate levels by Sunday evening. Weak to moderate onshore flow will prevail Monday through Tuesday. A very strong cold front is expected to move across the Middle Texas Coastal Waters Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a strong to very strong offshore flow developing in its wake. Small Craft Advisories conditions are likely with gale conditions possible on Wednesday. There is a medium to high (30-80%) chance for showers and thunderstorms ahead and along the cold front with rain ending in its wake.
