Area Forecast Discussion ...UPDATED National Weather Service Brownsville TX 500am CST Sat Feb 15 2025 Long Term (Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 254am CST Sat Feb 15 2025 Chilly temperatures Sunday night will give way gradually warmer temperatures Monday and Tuesday as southeasterly return flow sets up across the region. High temperatures Monday look to return to the low to mid 70s, with highs on Tuesday climbing to the mid to upper 80s. Another upper-level trough traversing the Central Plains will drive a cold front south through the CWA (County Warning Area) Tuesday night. Low temperatures are expected to fall to the upper 30s to mid 40s behind the front Tuesday night. High temperatures Wednesday look to remain in the 50s. Northerly winds will support further cooling, with low temperatures dropping to the upper 20s across the Northern Ranchlands and low to mid 30s across the Rio Grande Valley. There is of course some uncertainty in the temperature forecast for Wednesday night, with recent model runs trending cooler. NBM probabilities for freezing temperatures Wednesday night/Thursday morning range from 70-80% across the northern counties and around 40-50% across the southern counties. Freeze Watch/Warnings will likely be needed for the northern counties Wednesday night, and may be needed across the whole CWA. Cold Weather Advisories will also likely be needed across the CWA Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Southeastern portions of the CWA could see some low rain chances (20-30%) as the front passes. Drier conditions look to persist behind the front, keeping the potential for any frozen/freezing precipitation near-zero. Marine Issued at 254am CST Sat Feb 15 2025 Today through Sunday...Buoy 42020 reported south winds around 8 knots gusting to around 10 knots with seas slightly under 5 feet with a period of 8 seconds at 1:50 CST/7:50 UTC. A Small Craft Advisory will be in effect today for both the Laguna Madre and the Gulf of America waters from 0 to 60 nautical miles offshore due to an enhanced pressure gradient in advance of a cold front. Marine conditions will improve slightly tonight as the front begins to ease offshore, but Small Craft Should Exercise Caution may still be needed. A return to Small Craft Advisory conditions will occur on Sunday along the Lower Texas Coast as the front finally moves well offshore. Sunday night through Friday...Adverse marine conditions could linger into Sunday night as conditions look to improve early Monday morning. Generally favorable conditions look to remain through mid-week as light to moderate southeasterly winds support slight to moderate seas. Winds look to increase behind a cold front Tuesday night, likely remaining just below Gale Force through the day Wednesday, building high seas along the Lower Texas Coast. Winds look to improve Wednesday night with seas gradually diminishing through the day Thursday. Small Craft Advisories will likely be needed Wednesday and Thursday. Generally favorable conditions look to continue through the remainder of the period, though winds and seas on the offshore Gulf waters could briefly require Small Craft Should Exercise Caution headlines.
