Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 1022am PDT Sunday July 20 2025 Synopsis An upper-level trough will track south over the area today with low level onshore flow. It will remain near the region Monday and push eastward on Tuesday, bringing some increased shower chances near the mountains. Brief high pressure around midweek, bringing warmer and drier conditions. Another disturbance drops across the region late in the week. Short Term - Today through Tuesday Forecast remains on track this morning as an upper trough continues to slide toward the region. This will maintain partly to mostly cloudy skies across much of the area, though areas that see stratus lift first may end up with a little more sunshine. We'll see some light showers cross the region today, particularly near the coast and in the mountains. Can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm or two, especially in the North Cascades where there's around a 10-15% chance of seeing lightning this afternoon or evening. Daytime highs likely top out in the lower 70s for the interior and 60s along the coast - a few degrees below average for late July. Shower chances will continue overnight into Monday morning, especially south of Puget Sound and in the mountains, with up to around a tenth of an inch of rain possible in the spots that see the most. Remainder of previous short/long term sections follows Nighttime lows are forecast to bottom into the lower to mid 50s. Upper-troughing remaining overhead on Monday as it continues to sink south. It'll gradually progress on Tuesday as models have it crossing east of the Cascades by the evening. Shower and isolated thunderstorm chances along the mountains remain stubborn during this time, but temperatures will embark on a warming trend - topping out near average in the mid 70s to near 80 F. Overnight lows again in the 50s. Long Term - Wednesday Through Saturday A warm up towards mid- week appears likely as we'll be on the backside of the trough with transient ridging tracking overhead. Wednesday will bring the warmest temperatures of the week with highs topping out in the mid to upper 80s. The flow will then turn more zonal on Thursday before broad troughing arrives towards the weekend with a subsequent cool down. Conditions look to trend mostly dry during this time. McMillian Marine A weak low pressure system will move southward across the waters on Sunday. Surface high pressure over the northeastern Pacific will then rebuild with lower pressure east of the Cascades for varying degrees of onshore flow. Another trough approaching British Columbia will lead to an overall increase in onshore flow with possible westerly gales in the strait by around Thursday. 27 NOAA Seattle WA Office: Watches - Warnings - Advisories WA...None.
